Walking home In the middle of the night Rain is falling down And I feel somebody is watching me
I turned around and there she is She looks me straight in the eye And I say to her "What is your name?"
My name is Megu
She told me her name was Megu "Who else could it be," she said She looked me straight in the eye And I started to shake Cause when she looks at you You know it's got to be Megu
When you see her You will also know her name
It wasn't much to that many people, outside of the box he was placed in. The circus was lively every day, and those who came by always wanted to see him. They would poke at him, throw things at him, laugh and stare in wonder, all curious to see how he would react. Some sympathized, calling him "a poor thing," while others jeered, saying "he's just a robot, who cares what happens to him?"
The sign by his exhibit called him "the world's first human robot," meaning he was the closest thing to a human as they had ever seen. There were pictures of him crying, laughing, and truly showing emotion, of which the people 'oohed' and 'ahhhed' over. Atom would mainly stay in a corner of the cage, never fully making eye contact with anyone, and avoiding talking as much as possible. He hated it here.
That all changed when an older man arrived at the circus one day. He was with his nephew, taking him around and showing him the sights. But when he came upon Atom's cage, the look in his eyes changed completely. There was no look of sympathy, or jeering- but rather one of determination and anger. He couldn't believe they had locked up someone like this- robot or not.
The next thing they boy knew- he was being taken out of his box, and handed over to this man. The nephew was a bit nervous, but also excited, and smiled when he saw him. Atom flinched, receding away from the both of them, unsure of what to think. Why had this man gotten him out of the box? Was he being taken somewhere to show off again?
"You're not going to be paraded around, if that's what you're scared of." Came the answer, the older gentleman smiling a little. He was gentle and kind, though at this point the boy wasn't sure what to think. "There's no reason in making a robot hate humanity. We've already got a war on that."
He was silent for a long time, eyes on the ground, fists balled by his side and biting his lip in nervousness. He didn't know what to think, or to say- conversation with humans had been difficult ever since he'd been sold by his master. It was quiet, almost too quiet, but finally after a long period of silence, he spoke.
"I... don't want to be hurt."
"And you never will again, boy. Not as long as I'm around." There was a hand being lent out towards him, like a guide of light in a dark tunnel. "What's your name? You'd rather be called by that, wouldn't you?"
His mouth opened and he went to say the name he was always used to being called by- Tobio. But his creator had said his son was dead, gone. From that moment, Tobio no longer existed. So he chose the name the circus men had decided to give him, but never used afterwards.
"Atom. My name is Atom."
"Well, Atom. It's good to meet you. I'm Professor Ochanomizu." And for the first time in a long while, Atom smiled, placed his hand in the professor's, and walked home with him.
05 :: My Name is Megu - Zwei
In the middle of the night
Rain is falling down
And I feel somebody is watching me
I turned around and there she is
She looks me straight in the eye
And I say to her
"What is your name?"
My name is Megu
She told me her name was Megu
"Who else could it be," she said
She looked me straight in the eye
And I started to shake
Cause when she looks at you
You know it's got to be Megu
When you see her
You will also know her name
