1. "Eat It" - Weird Al Yankovic

Well don't you know that other kids are starving in Japan, so eat it, just eat it.

"I'm not hungry," Kanna said with a pout, staring at the food in front of her.

Uraha tutted. "A lady always finishes off what has been given to her to be polite, and a growing young lady takes seconds."

Kanna's eyes went wide. "S-seconds?" She looked down at the unidentified food object served to her. With the help of her panicking imagination, it looked vaguely purple. She gulped. "Really, I think I have had enough today. You can have the rest of mine."

"Kanna-sama!" Uraha scolded. "Never fuss over your food. Now, eat."

"But I don't want-"

2. "Iron Flower" - K's Choice

Kanna didn't feel like a child at all. She knew others saw her that way, but that wasn't how it was.

She knew enough of the world to know that people would be willing to separate a young child from her mother. She knew that she was hated and feared because of what she was born as. She knew that if she took one step outside of her temple, she would be either pulled back inside or shot full of arrows.

No, her childhood ended early. And that was fine. She would never be their pet to put on display.

3. "Caribbean Blue" - Enya

If every man says all he can, if every man is true, do I believe the sky above is Caribbean blue?

Kanna loved the idea of what it might be like to fly in the sky. The sky, which would be a beautiful, bright shade of blue, would stretch around her in every direction. She would swoop down, doing circles and loops to her heart's content.

And below her she'd see people. Children playing with each other. One man lightening another's load. Women just talking to each other. That's what she'd get to watch, if she could fly.

And people would look up so briefly. Or they would smile and wave, and she would wave back. There would be no fear.

4. "Requiem For A Dying Song" - Flogging Molly

And the sun that lights the day breaks the darkness and the powers of another great shame.

Kanna passed all kinds of injustices in the villages she traveled through. There were many, many who went hungry. There were those who spoke cruelly to one another, and those who were violent with one another. She wrote things for children who could not read them and never would.

She was focused on surviving, now. But later, when she wasn't being chased, she would come back and make things better. She would. There was no way this sort of thing could be allowed to go on while she had a chance to stop it.

But it would have to wait.

5. "Kiss Me" - Sixpence None The Richer

Lead me out on the moonlit floor.

In another time, Kanna curled up against Ryuuya's side. "Let's go outside tonight."

"At this time of night?" Ryuuya asked, petting her hair.

"The moon casts a beautiful glow on everything, it's wonderful." She stood and tugged on his arm until he followed her.

They walked for a few minutes, enjoying the moonlight over the grass. A few fireflies drifted across the path, and she caught one in the palm of her hand before releasing it. "They're wonderful," she commented, watching Ryuuya. Then, with a smile, she leaned on the tips of her toes and kissed him. "So are you."
