Spencer was dead and had been for three - no, four years. That was a fact, and Wesker knew it very well. He dealt only in facts, things he could know and be sure of, tangible things and in this way, he could leave no room for doubt. And yet, when he lingered on the final conversation with the old man (and it lingered more and more often these days), the darker corners of his mind whispered those doubts

that he is nothing, merely a pathetic remnant, one of several manufactured for the same purpose

and it would grow a little louder each time as if Spencer himself were there, gone but not forgotten, reminding Wesker of what he was: nothing.
