In all honesty? I think it would actually work. Because I can't imagine them acting much differently at all - even if they were in a romantic relationship, the way they treated each other would be pretty much exactly the same, and definitely so on the surface. They wouldn't encounter any problems like sex either, because Neuro wouldn't want it and Yako wouldn't need it. Their relationship would never rely on, or really, have anything to do with sexual intimacy.
The closest they would come to it, and one of the only ways their behaviour towards each other would change, is that Yako might give Neuro a hug or a light kiss as a sign of innocent affection or gratitude, and Neuro would do similar gestures to her either to humiliate and embarrass her (e.g. kissing her in public and then acting scandalised and going SENSEI DON'T DO SUCH BOLD THINGS IN PUBLIC YOU'RE SUCH A RAVENOUS PERVERT ;////;) or as a form of reward or praise - i.e., when she does something extraordinary, when she solves a case, when she evolves in his eyes, he might give her a kiss on the cheek as silent praise. ... And then slam her face into the floor to even it out.
Also, I think Neuro would probably like taking advantage of the various upsides to being a boyfriend. What's mine is yours, no secrets between us, etc. It would give him an excuse to be openly possessive because he could falsely claim that it's just ~jealousy~ (and that he's worried his beloved sensei will run off with another man if he doesn't keep her close because she is a filthy greedy whore like that ;////;), and it would also mean that he would be the absolute most important person to Yako. He'd have her complete and utter loyalty - I imagine if she ever bothered trying to explain love between people to him, she'd say it in terms of "the utmost loyalty and devotion" or something - and he could be confident in knowing that he meant more to her than anything and she would do anything for him. He'd have a solid grip on his slave.
