Naesala's views on relationships, well. It's different from his views on sex: he likes sex, he likes getting sex, and he's willing to use sex as a tool even if he doesn't like that at all. (He's attractive and the Begnion senators are kind of pervs, so the chances of him having sold a night with himself at one point aren't slim?)

Relationships are different. Most of what he has can barely be called relationships; he makes advances, people accept them, they have a relationship of convenience. He understands what he wants and what they want. It isn't scary at all. There's no commitment - when he breaks it off, he breaks it off.

Rose isn't like that at all. Naesala has had very few long-term emotional attachments, and she's one of them. He liked talking to her even when there didn't seem to be a chance of him ever having anything physical with her - it's definitely not a purely sex thing like most of the people he's had romantic entanglements with. He cares if he loses her, and he's worried about doing something to lose her. It's hard for him to admit this because of his pride, but he has really no idea what he's doing here and it scares him a lot.
