15 - Chrome, VNV Nation
But her scream resonates through his entire being, and there is now nothing that will stop him. Pain? Pain he is used to. Regret? He lives with regret every day. Hesitance? Please. He burned his flaws out once, and he will do it again should it be necessary. No, it is vengeance that pounds through is body now, vengeance and violence.
The monster with the silver face laughs at the swords, relics of an era so long gone from his universe that they might as well be jaw bones or sticks. His shimmercloak deflects them easily enough, and the brutal strength he has honed over the years takes care of the guards a moment later. Once he only thought of his own protection when he trained. Being able to break a mans arm with a single movement had been the only way he could feel safe from a world that had broken him just as easily. But now that violence that comes so naturally to him is not for his sake - oh no - but for someone he can no longer protect.
The woman screams when he finally finds her, an echo of what he hopes Kanna's last sounds were. He knows what he must look like; a monster with a silver face etched with sapphire tears, apparently unphased by all that her guards could throw at him. She shrinks away just as so many have done before, and he offers up thanks to the god that left him his collection of battle masks.
But when he comes to her feet, it is not with a tone of anger that he greets her.
"You were her mentor."
She winces, the words striking harder than any blow.
"She trusted you."
He took another step forward.
"But you never understood, did you?"
His hands are gentle as a caress, and his smooth skin belying the violent power beneath the lines of his palm.
"You never believed."
There is a bitter smile in his voice.
"So now that...beauty is gone." His hands tighten, and she struggles futility against the double blows of his words and hands. "Can you return to your life now? Can you forget what she was? Is your world safer because there is no more difference?"
Her hands clench at the sleeves of his robe and the light in her eyes begins to dim. The seconds come like explosions, her heartbeat pounding in red across her vision, but he doesn't let her eyes leave his face. Red eyes...she thinks before there is one final explosion -
And his hands fall. She gasps, air and vision returning in a rush as her guards wrestle him away from her. No matter what they do, they cannot seem to push him to the ground. He stands, towering over her, and she realizes he never intended to end her life.
"I thought the gods had left us in disgust." He says, as the mad whirl of color begins to pull him back into the world from which he came. "But now I see that to be idealistic. I should have known we would never have let them live."
Then he's gone, disappearing into the air as suddenly as he arrived, leaving her to clutch the tatters of her robe - and dignity - around herself, and pray that what he said was a lie.

...maybe its a good thing that Kaaree wasn't around for Kanna's canon.
