Accidental Post - Potential Ep 8 Spoilers, Battler/Yuri + Ange

In the nostalgic kaleidoscope of roses in the couple's garden, one color missing was gold. The magic required to create them was long gone, but even if he were still the Endless Sorcerer, that symbol of eternity would have no place here. Of course he never forgot; that spark that began a love that could never have the chance to burn is preserved by magic like a photograph, processed, printed, completed, without regret or wonder on what wasn't, what might have been. That it existed is all that mattered, and no tangible realities can alter that, now. The magic that shields it, known as time, is less vulnerable than the magic that created it.

There was also a magic in the ephemeral. But, he had no power over that. She may have had resistance, but not power, and one day, he knew, she would succumb as surely as he would. Her skin may have remained supple, and her mind may remain both blessedly and cursedly sharp, but surely as he felt age take him, he knew her time would come. He knew that because she stayed with him even like that, even as his body failed him, as his memory went, as sickness befell him more and more frequently.

That didn't stop his eyes from following their daughter's perfect proportion of revealed skin between her skirt and her thigh, his dry, wrinkled hand waving her off as he wished her well at her first job interview.

He has always had a certain lack of filial piety in his lust. That she isn't their biological daughter had very little to do with anything. Unfortunately, the most squeamish might say. But she's a hardy girl who knows her parents well, as unflapped by both of their bizarre behavior as she was by the contrast between them. She grew up with it, after all. While there was no place for endless magic in their new family life, golden magic did have a part in granting a child to such a couple.

Of course, the community's magic had its hand in their relationship. Without it, they would never have met. And they knew that it could take them from each other as mercilessly as it did their first adopted child, a boy who vanished without a trace one day. That was what lead them to employ a more reliable magic for the second.

The loss of a child is a tragedy couples face. It wasn't so strange. By the time they chose to adopt again, even if he was an unusually old father of a newborn, even if she was a scandelously young mother, it wasn't any sort of complication that wouldn't be faced by a normal couple.

There was a certain magic each of them brought, as well. While they knew--and they did, at times painfully--that she wouldn't age a day, years could be added on depending on clothing, hair styles, and mannerisms. For his own trick in the act, he remained eternally a moron. She told him so. In fact, he seemed to become more and more of one, as if bestowed with that shamelessness that comes in old age without having properly gone through that period where one loses the share of it that comes with youth. With a body that could no longer fully act out the sort of shameless things that come to mind in youth, there was nothing left but to pour all of that into sheer sentimentality.

Their love was not a decoration that will last forever, like a golden rose centerpiece. But, being able to experience the other colors of magic, even those with dark, bitter shades, had been a more than worthy exchange.








It's not really a story suited for children's writer Kotobuki Yukari's usual audience. As she stares at the manuscript she's written, she debates whether it's a story fit to publish to the multitude of worlds, much less her own. She has something of an image to keep up out there, as someone more caustic, less romantic than the late Ushiromiya Battler. Still, as likely the first to have noticed his wife's screenname missing from the community's rosters, something had to be said. The community couldn't be trusted to let the two of its most prominent, long term members pass on to a world it no longer touched with grace; the sooner she breached that topic, the better.



No. It's definitely too sappy. The loss is just too fresh; she'll save it as a word document and edit it properly in the morning. Surely, the community will give her 24 hours.

Kirika couldn't complain. Intercepting any attempts by that creature to make Madoka contract was their mission. Obviously Oriko didn't have any real interest in that girl. Even if she certainly looked like it, pinning the surprised Madoka to the wall and kissing her while ignoring any protest. Madoka's squirms of distress did nothing to alleviate Kirika's fears -- if Oriko didn't care that she wasn't happy, then what did it matter to whether she was competition or not? -- nor did Homura's twitching and the extreme prejudice with which she shot Kyuubey whenever he regenerated and came back to eat himself. No matter who was upset by it, it was still going on.

No FAIR.

"And Aqua's landed a kick that sent Marine crashing down! She's got the cover! Is this the end for-- ohhhh, and a kick out at two!" Yayoi pumped her fists at the announce table excitedly.

Setsuna propped up her head beside her and surveyed the match. "It's interesting to be sure, but there aren't even many people watching."

"I don't even know why they needed three of us on commentary," Yuri said on the other end. "There Marine's rolling out, can she make the tag -- yes, Sunshine's in!"

Yayoi clapped. "And she's starting off with a strong offence, dodging her opponent and taking both Black and White out at ringside so they can't tag in! But wait, is that...?"

Setsuna's eyes never left the battle. "Do you need to announce their strategies and everything they're doing? It seems counterintuitive."

"It is! IT IS! It's Aqua's Sapphire Arrow! Right to the skull of Sunshine, and she's over the ropes! And while the referee is distracted, White begins her assault at ringside!"

"I don't think Kise-san cares about that," Yuri whispers to Setsuna.

Setsuna smirks. "More's the pity."

Hayate bubbled over Erika's designs. "Oh, this would look adorable! And it's perfect for Karen-nee -- ah, Karen-chan, too! It'll really look like it's filled out her bust."

"You think? That's great!" Erika sparkled at her. "I like the kid you, but I really love when viruses make you an adult! You have so many great ideas!"

Hayate smiled back. "I try my best! Oh, after last time, what did Tsubomi-chan and Itsuki-chan think of the bunny suits, hm?"

"I think they loved them!" Erika said.

"Really?"

The blue-haired girl went through a long pause, during which she made the oddest dramatic faces that closely resembled a melting ice pop.

"Uh... if by 'they loved them' I mean 'they banned me from bringing them any new outfits or designs within two weeks of speaking to you ever again'..."

"Pity," Hayate said, resting a finger on her lip. "I was going to suggest nurses next."

Diarmuid rubbed his forehead and puzzled over the sample papers in the brick of a legal text in front of him. "Forgive me if I am... not entirely certain of how this works in modern times."

"Not to worry," Mami said with the same serene smile as always. "Ryuudou-san and Tendou-san have offered to assist as well with any of the work and any questions you may have, and Karen knows some people who can fabricate legal identities for off-worlders."

"It seems like entirely too much," he said. A small sigh, and he smiled at her. "It will be worth it, though, in the end, will it not?"

Mami blinked. Her eyes widened and she didn't say anything for a moment.

"Yes," she finally managed. "It will be nice to have a family again."

It feels weird for her to vent her problems to him. They're usually nothing, just stress about lacrosse games, homework she's already done, tests she's failed three years in a row. When they're not, they're musings about her juniors, heroes who haven't had as much time to work through their problems but in whom she has a lot of faith. It's hard to rationalize complaining about any of that to someone who has to deal with demons trying to kill people, rioting in the streets, and his girlfriend still being missing.

But the strange thing is, he doesn't seem to mind. He lets her complain and tells her not to apologize when she feels guilty. He's the one who seems reluctant at times to push things on her, and she has to tell him that they care, that she cares about what he's saying.

She wishes she could save him, but she has a crushing feeling that all of her promises won't even get off the ground.
