I AM A THIEF.

Hey guys! I am here to offer another... stolen meme courtesy of my boredom.

BASICALLY, just explain to everyone what your character's username means or why you made it. There are a lot of cool ones here and I want to see how you guys came up with it. Was it a quote? Was it funny at the time? Was it a really lame inside-joke that no-one but a few people would get?

Mine are as straightforward as straightforward can be. :|b BUT OTHERS ARE NOT. SO. YEAH. HAVE FUN.

well, philogynous is apparently a word :>

[livejournal.com profile] timey_wimey - comes from Ten's most famous quote about time being "a big ball of wibbly wobbly timey wimey stuff". :>

[livejournal.com profile] nick_4_maya - I wanted something that sounded like an eight-year-old would have thought of it, and Pearl still rabidly shipped Phoenix and Maya at the time she joined, so.

[livejournal.com profile] ihave_control - Because it is the most famous bit of Engrish in the series and Alle says it all the time before he flies off in the Kyrios. XD

[livejournal.com profile] ofhopeandgory - comes from the English patriotic song, "Land of Hope and Glory". :> I was actually really surprised that this one wasn't taken already!

[livejournal.com profile] not_that_lockon - I needed a Lyle username because I was one of the first people to try playing him seriously and this just seemed to fit because of the fact that everyone mistook him for Neil and he haaaaaates it.

[livejournal.com profile] pansbox -- In canon, Kaito is on a never ending quest for a jewel that a) is very small and embedded in a larger jewel (so it's a doublet), b) glows red under the moonlight and c) grants immortality by crying liquid tears that can be consumed when the Volley Comet passes. It's called Pandora, an obvious reference to the Pandora myth in Greek Mythology. When I was thinking of a name for him, I didn't want to be cliche and choose anything related to clovers, Kid, or 1412, so I decided to focus on the legend surrounding his quest (not to mention he references Pandora's Box to Conan in relation to unmasking himself at one point in canon)! [livejournal.com profile] pandorasbox and other variations of the full name were taken, so I shortened 'Pandora' to 'Pan' and thus... [livejournal.com profile] pansbox was formed! It's actually probably my favorite username I've come up with so far.

[livejournal.com profile] magicalminuki -- lol one of my more uncreative names, made back when I didn't put much stock into what my character's screennames were. Her Japanese name is Minuki, and she's a magician. Thus, 'magicalminuki' for the alliteration.

[livejournal.com profile] chickhasagun -- Yoko is a chick. She has a gun. Enough said.

[livejournal.com profile] yourtrumpcard -- In canon, Rika refers to Keiichi as her 'trump card' to overcoming Takano's devious plot and finally breaking free of her fated summer of 1983. Keiichi is the catalyst for all the events that eventually helped the group defeat Takano and her men. His determination to fight against fate is what finally gave Rika the courage to fight it as well.

[livejournal.com profile] fallbymyhand -- When you knock down all your enemies in P3 and have the option to use an All-Out Attack, one of your party members will look at you and ask if you want to. If Mitsuru is the one to ask you, and you choose 'yes,' then her battle cry afterward is "You'll fall by my hand!"

[identity profile] stripping.livejournal.com 2010-01-11 12:32 am (UTC)(link)
To be honest, looking at Kaito's username sometimes makes me go 'but Pan doesn't have a box. What would it have in it, panpipes? Nature stuff? What does that have to do with Kaito??'

[livejournal.com profile] ewwgirls. This is Issei. He is terrified of girls, so much that interacting positively with a girl in canon triggers a 'wtf??' reaction from his BFF whenever it happens. Also, even thinking vaguely about how a woman is beautiful makes him go 'sob I am so unclean and a terrible monk, I must go purify myself right now!'

...also, it made me giggle.

[livejournal.com profile] visestvita Latin for 'power is life', part of the Umbrella motto thing. ...I can't remmeber how it goes, exactly.

[livejournal.com profile] det_goofball Detective Goofball! Because, well, Adachi is. Still is, despite the lol murder thing.

[livejournal.com profile] hornyattorney His spiky hair is apparently reminiscent of horns, so. And it's IRONIC or something.

[livejournal.com profile] pantlesstroll He's a troll. Without trousers pants. 'Nuff said.

[livejournal.com profile] rex_caelorum This one took me forever to come up with, it means 'king of the skies'.

...I love Latin usernames, however pretentious they are.

[livejournal.com profile] thricedeadwind - Zechs Marquise "died" three times before DDD. The boy prince, Milliardo Peacecraft, had to be presumed dead after his family was massacred. Treize Kushrenada had him "killed" for treason by the people within OZ who hated him, causing his mask to crack and their friendship to be broken. And Milliardo Peacecraft, leader of the White Fang, sacrificed himself to destroy Libra once he decided his path was incorrect. "Wind" is the codename he chose for the Preventers.

[livejournal.com profile] mortal_son - Shinjiro Aragaki's Persona is called Castor, the mortal son (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Castor_and_Pollux) of Tyndareus and Leda.

[livejournal.com profile] rapeofthetiger - first RP journal, first thing I thought of while running to the bathroom. Sometimes the implications of it still escape me since I have no clue WHY I named it as such. On DDD I like to think Ggio thinks the name is badass from whenever he was looking up cool net lingo; yeah he's that much of an idiot. :|b

[livejournal.com profile] mintmaskedmoth - I don't recall why I gave Mashiro this journal name either, besides it being the only phrase I had in mind when I made her journal compulsively to play against a Shinji on dear_mun, though I had been wanting to name her.

[livejournal.com profile] kufufu_bb - This is based on some silly thing I used to say and sort of meant to go along with Hibari and then Chrome's with the name consisting of 'something that is characteristic of the character + net acronym".

[livejournal.com profile] aliceinouran because Haruhi is the only normal person amongst her friends at Ouran. :|;;; Also, there was a chapter/episode where they had an Alice in Wonderland spin-off, and Haruhi was, naturally, Alice.

[livejournal.com profile] nonoise very simple! Nill... cannot make any kind of vocal sounds, they took her voice. I also wanted something very simple to match her simplistic "speaking" style.

[livejournal.com profile] promissum ... it's just "promise". And I would tell you what's so significant about that but it would spoil the entire series for you, so. uh. yeah.

[livejournal.com profile] imperfectionary again, uh, hooray being vague to avoid massive spoilers, but it's pretty much a scramble of "imperfect" and "imaginary".

[livejournal.com profile] tsuntohisdere because Romano is tsundere, but primarily tsun, whereas the two he is closest to - Italy and Spain - are both major deres. SO you can see it as tsun to either of their deres.

... lmfao it's okay franzy, mine are lame too.

[livejournal.com profile] jagan_glare: Ban has an ability called the Jagan [Evil Eye], which sends anyone who makes direct eye contact with him into a 60-second dream. Thing is, the dream is so real, the person thinks that it's really happening - up until he says "Just a minute" ("Exactly one minute" in the manga), and then asks you if you had a nice dream. 'Glare' is just because it sounds more intense. |3

[livejournal.com profile] dude_it_glows: There is an infamous Tekken fanfic penned years ago by my good friend Shira called "Tekken Committee (http://www.fanfiction.net/s/837703/1/Tekken_Committee)," and in it, Kazuya Mishima creates a committee that just....does stuff (one chapter is devoted to unmasking Kunimitsu by way of a beauty pageant, for example). In it, Hwoarang is portrayed as a stoner, and absolutely no one can say his name (which is another reason why he's called Bob). The username is from when Hwoarang was staring at Yoshimitsu's sword, and he says, "Dude, it glows."

[livejournal.com profile] sandy_requiem: Every Temple in Ocarina of Time has its own Ocarina song that one must play in order to warp to it. The song for the Spirit Temple is the Requiem of Spirit. "Sandy" because the Gerudo live in the Gerudo Desert. \o/

[livejournal.com profile] cleaver_bitch: It's my youngest brother's nickname for Rena. When I first showed him Higurashi, when Rena comes to the town junkyard wielding her infamous weapon, Steve yelled, "Holy shit, it's a cleaver bitch!"

[livejournal.com profile] debitumnaturae: It means "death" in Latin, or more literally, "the debt owed to nature." The literal meaning ties in to some of the implications made about Death's role in the cosmos. Also, another theme of Sandman is a quote from Ovid's Metamorphoses: "Omnia mutantur, nihil interit." ("Everything changes, nothing is truly lost.") Again, it relates to Death's purpose, and I liked the Latin parallelism.

I'd claim I was sucking up to Latte, too, but I didn't know her very well at the time.

Also, every single goddamn memorable line by or about her is taken by Gaiman fans.

[livejournal.com profile] honestcop: First, I suck at usernames. Second, it's a quote from the movie. Togusa and the Major are in the van, on their way to go fuck somebody's shit up--well, the Major, anyway; Togusa merely successfully avoids dying--and the following conversation happens [emphasis mine]:

Togusa: Major, I've been meaning to ask you. Why'd you ask for a guy like me to be transferred in from the police?

Kusanagi: Because you're a guy like you.

Togusa: Huh?

Kusanagi: An honest cop with a clean record. And you've got a regular family. With the exception of your cyber-net implants, your brain's real. No matter how powerful we may be fighting-wise a system where all the parts react the same way is a system with a fatal flaw. Like individual, like organization. Overspecialization leads to death. That's all.

Suguru's journal name is a reference to one of his canon nicknames-Last Five Seconds Miracle Fighter. Because he always loses, right until the last 5 seconds, then he wins.

[livejournal.com profile] nevergiveitback is a bit more complicated. Kuroro is from a place called Meteor City, which is actually a country sized junkyard. The country is a SCARY place and they look after their own. So when someone from the city was falsely arrested, out of spite, the 32 people who were involved in the case were killed in suicide bombings, leaving notes saying 'we accept everything, so never try to take it back.' As Kuroro is the Quintessence of Theft, and on the other end of the equation being a Meteor City resident, I reversed it.

[livejournal.com profile] devil_forge since Hector is a Devil Forge Master. Yeah... I didn't have to do much thinking for that one. ^^;

[livejournal.com profile] autobot_girl because Sari always thought of herself as a member of the Autobots, even before she found out she was part Cybertronian.

[livejournal.com profile] originaldragoon since Rose is one of the original seven Dragoons. She's also the only person to be the Dragoon of the Darkness Dragon and thus she is the original Darkness Dragoon.

[livejournal.com profile] no_wing_knight The "no wing" part is based on what Priss said to Linna. She was saying she did not join the Knight Sabers to be a hero and said there were no wings on her back. And the "knight" part stands for Knight Sabers.

[identity profile] clockmaster.livejournal.com 2010-01-11 01:01 am (UTC)(link)
[livejournal.com profile] green_witch_w: It stands for green witch of the west, that's what Elphaba is :3

[livejournal.com profile] justaschoolgirl I couldn't came up with a good user name for Aoko because in canon, Kaito is a magician thief, Hakuba a detective, Akako a witch ad she was just a normal schoolgirl so..that was it. ^^'

[livejournal.com profile] clockmaster : Saguru it's obsessed with time.

[livejournal.com profile] chaos_godess : I wanted to make it obvious XD

[livejournal.com profile] badasssecretary : Tatsumi its a secretary and he's badass so....

[livejournal.com profile] land_of_the_sun : The phrase "The Empire on which the sun never sets" has been used, with variations, to describe global empires so large that at least one part of their territory is always in daylight. It has been used mainly of the Spanish and British empires. They're not huge Empires anymore but Spain is a sunny place, unlike England. :3

[livejournal.com profile] east_darkhorse : Prussia, according to TV tropes it's a character that become a ensemble darkhorse. Thias term can be used to refer to one of two things. Generally, it's used to describe a side character making up part of the Ensemble, either a non-lead secondary character or a mere Flat Character, who can sometimes become unexpectedly popular with the fandom (sometimes, even more than the lead characters) depending on who and where the fandom is. It can also refer to a lead character who wasn't intended to be any more noticeable, stranger, or more likable than the rest of the cast, but manages to become a clear fan favorite in any case. And, Prussia is called EAST in canon too :D

[livejournal.com profile] catchthefairies Think that's pretty straight forward for a Fairy hunter. Who lives in a Fairy based world, studies Fairies and shouts, FAIRIES!

[livejournal.com profile] thefairynator Jarhead Jorgen, is the boss of the Fairies, and is also suppose to be parody of Arnold Schwarzenegger, he has the accent people too. Hence a joke on the Terminator movie.
Plus, 'I'll be back... with magic.' Was too long.

[livejournal.com profile] nike_hat Ash's oringal cap, has a green Nike check mark in the center. :)

[livejournal.com profile] agent_86_smart Straight forward and to the point.

[livejournal.com profile] flame_stigma - Sol has a mark on his head that he keeps hidden with his headband- the mark that brands him as a Gear. It looks like a five-tongued flame. And since it's the mark of a Gear, it's like a stigma- you do not want to be anywhere near something with the mark.

[livejournal.com profile] suplexing - One of Leon's trademark moves in RE4 is to suplex his target after shooting it in the kneecaps. 8D It's a ton of fun to do. And almost always a one-shot kill on the mooks.

[livejournal.com profile] rebelbloodline - Rock is trying to "rebel against the bloodline" of Geese Howard, allowing for him to try and live his own life outside of what people expect him to do as Geese's son.

[livejournal.com profile] dualityinblood - Jin has not only the Devil Gene in him, but he also has a nice guy side that's been mostly gone since T5. :| BUT HE HAS GOOD INTENTIONS WITH THIS SHIT, I SWEAR. But I can't say for sake of spoilers. I miiiight change it at one point.

[livejournal.com profile] ultiodivina - Firion's name means "Divine revenge/retribution". Yes, it's Latin. 8D; Basically it comes from the fact that he wanted to get stronger so he could avenge his family and village - and got so through very interesting circumstances. :>

[livejournal.com profile] ttlynotcable - Natey's name comes from the fact that he's considered the Age of Apocalypse version of Cable. However, he has said on several occasions that he's not Cable, and he never will be. :| He hates being compared to the old fart.

/doesn't tell 8>

[livejournal.com profile] samriprosecutor: With a strong appreciation for the way of bushido and an intense, fangirlish love of the Steel Samurai, Edgeworth is the samurai prosecutor.

[livejournal.com profile] halfthemadness: Designed to pair nicely with Devit's username, [livejournal.com profile] halfthetroubl. :3 Jasdero is the less stable of the pair, hence the 'madness.'

grey_grief: (Beauty Queen)

[personal profile] grey_grief 2010-01-11 01:12 am (UTC)(link)
[livejournal.com profile] deadly_garden Yay for having a hard time coming up with a username. I wanted things like "silverkitsune" or "rosekitsune" or just anything that was a play on roses, silver, foxes or plants in general. But of course every single name was taken. So I finally went to our Heiji and said "Hon, you're good at usernames, HALP." So she gave me [livejournal.com profile] deadly_garden. Kurama's a plant user when he fights and the final end theme has him walking in what looks like a greenhouse so... deadly garden it was.

[livejournal.com profile] grey_grief Haibara's name is interesting. It's actually an etymology joke in a sense. According to canon (Yes, they did discuss this) they chose Haibara's child name based on a couple of famous female detectives: VI Warshawsky and Cordelia Gray. The kanji for "hai" is gray, and for the "ai" kanji they chose "grief," which is pronounced the same as "love," which was the professor's preferred kanji. Apparently Haibara herself insisted on the "grief" meaning. Grey was chosen over gray due to her being half British (British peeps, wanna correct me on this because I've only ever been taught the "gray" spelling so if I'm wrong let me know). Et voila, [livejournal.com profile] grey_grief.

[livejournal.com profile] felinevanity: A bad pun on her name, Kitty Pryde. Kitty=cat=feline. Pryde=pride=vanity. So, Kitty Pryde becomes feline vanity. IDK man.

[livejournal.com profile] pinkerthan: Ty Lee's obsessed with having a pink aura and yeah.

[livejournal.com profile] halfherfather: Terra's half-Esper and her father was her Esper parent. So, yeah.

[livejournal.com profile] changerofwilds: Morrigan is a shapechanger and she hails from the Korcari Wilds. Thus, she's the changer of (the) wilds.

maraich: (Voodoo)

[personal profile] maraich 2010-01-11 01:24 am (UTC)(link)
Maraihi - The way Maraich is spelled in Japanese, in Romanji of course.

Pretty simple.

OHGOD I LOVE THIS.

[livejournal.com profile] theman_inred Dante has a lot of nicknames, everything from "Jackass" to "SSStylish" to "Lazy bum." When I made his account on a whim, I didn't want to use something involving his mentioning of demonic powers, mainly because well... He's not fond of them, even after using them for over 10 years. So, I sat down, and ran nicknames for him through my head, for ideas. "The man in red" was one I distinctly remember in the anime, and it was the first one that popped into my head. 8> So I went with that.

[livejournal.com profile] zanarkandsboy At the time, I hadn't played through the entire game of X, and I didn't want to have such a spoilerish username for those who hadn't played the game. Besides, if he was going to be pre-canon, no point in telling his big secret right away, right?

[livejournal.com profile] awaken_vegnagun Honestly, I was scrambling for a name for him. I had never played X-2, I had only seen a few cutscenes with him in it, but I knew for a fact that the angsting bastard was obsessed and hellbent on getting his revenge, and he wanted to get it by "awakening the machina called Vegnagun," and thus- the username took form.

[livejournal.com profile] noirnoshirayuki Orz I... have no good explanation for this. XD I had made the account before really reading into the series, and the original name would've been "sodenoshirayuki" for Rukia's zanpakuto. When that was already taken, I tried thinking of names, and then just randomly started searching the Bleach wiki (more importantly, Rukia's page), and I read a little, and then came up with this name. The "noir" stands for her duty and loyalty as a Shinigami, and "no shirayuki" means "of snow" (or "sleeve of snow," I forget), for her zanpakuto, and the mentioning of her being like snow or like the moon. Idk if it was the best choice, lmao, buuuuut if I ever want to change it, I will. XD

[livejournal.com profile] keybladedork First idea for a name that came to my mind, really. Sora's a derp, he's lovable, everyone is his best friend ever, and he wields a giant key as a weapon. I mean, come on, how awesome is that?

[livejournal.com profile] mnkeywrenchjams I HAD SUCH A HARD TIME THINKING OF A NAME FOR HIM AT FIRST OMG. To me, Yosuke was a jerk, he didn't care about other people, and he was just a dick overall, and made bad jokes and whined too much. But when I began going through the walkthrough, I fell in love with him, and one of the funniest things I noticed about him was that he focused on the battle through blasting his music. He seems to have a major love of it, like me, and also his first weapon was a pair of monkey wrenches. |3

AND EVEN THOUGH SHE'S BEEN DROPPED: [livejournal.com profile] crimsnbuttrfly The one catchy thing about Ada that I loved reading about her was that after her first interaction with Leon, she felt like she was reborn again, into a new person. Butterflies symbolize "new life" in Chinese folklore, and the color red means vibrant and lively (not to mention mysterious), and it's a polar opposite to Leon (who's usually coded with blue). Those two are put as the "yin" and "yang" of each other.
