With all this ruckus going on, I think we need to thinking about our CHARACTER RELATIONSHIPS.

Spike seems pretty alright. Knows how it goes, doesn't seem to have a victim complex, doesn't seem to be raging against the world. Easy-going and yet seems to understand life's a sack of shit. That sits real well with Shinjiro. He knows Spike isn't telling him anything straight, but at the same time, he knows Spike isn't bullshitting. And that suits him real fine.

In a way, he still is suspicious of him. He can't really know what it's like. As much as Shinji likes the fact Spike is easygoing, he seems to be taking his own life too lightly. He can't see what's possibly so bad for Spike to want to escape it - and figures, if anything, Spike might be the sort of worthless guy who throws away what's been given him. If that is true, Shinjiro will be disappointed.
