With all this ruckus going on, I think we need to thinking about our CHARACTER RELATIONSHIPS.

Mitsuru respects Shinji, and she understands his decisions for leaving SEES, she really does. She somewhat empathizes with his guilt, as she has a lot of a different type sitting on her plate, though she can't understand exactly what he went through like Akihiko can. She considers him a friend, if a distant one, and cares for his well-being. But she also realizes he needs space for him to work out his own problems... and although she doesn't agree with some of the things he's doing (living homeless, going to a love hotel, etc etc) and she worries about him greatly, she won't force him into doing what she thinks is right

However, if he does decide to return to SEES, she will welcome him with open arms and a smile. :>
