Everyone's a little bit racist, it's true. ♫

Do your characters have any (either outright or subconscious) prejudices? If yes, how do/does they/it affect him or her in daily life?

Phoenix: You know, as much as I'd like to say he's free of prejudice, I don't think that's the case. Although it's largely subconscious, he's sexist in the sense that he feels men should be left to doing more laborious work, because it makes more sense to him. While he'd never deny a woman her right to choose what she does with her life, he might raise an eyebrow at a woman in a profession that's typically male-dominated (say, construction work or some other labor-type job); he'd never say anything, of course. Like I noted, it's largely subconscious. If someone ever pointed it out to him, he'd probably feel badly and try to change it, but it'd be difficult to break that sort of conditioning.

In addition, he feels women should also be treated with more respect and handled more carefully than men, because they're more 'sensitive' about certain issues--like gender roles, for instance. :|

As far as conscious prejudices go, he's noticeably judgmental of people who have criminal histories, though a lot of that has been tempered by the friends he's made on the community (Maraich o9 Tyki o9), much to his... confusion. He really isn't sure if that's a good thing, considering his line of work.

Devit: As I've mentioned a few times, he's extremely chauvinistic. He has little interest in women, viewing them as the weaker gender and using them strictly to exploit the weaknesses of other men (like using Lenalee as bait for Allen and Anita as bait for Cross, for example). As far as he's concerned, they're tools. Some of that thinking is the product of the times--he is from the late 19th century, after all--but most of it stems from his own insecurities. Whether he admits it or not, he wants to be seen favorably in the eyes of others, specifically in the eyes of other males, because they're the dominant, more important gender whose opinions actually count. As far as he's concerned, women are useless, aside from looking pretty and doing girly things. (Never mind the fact that he likes to look pretty and does a few girly things himself, but that's a whole other kettle of fish.)

He also has a strong prejudice against 'monsters', or people who are abnormal or grotesquely different in some way. Once again, this prejudice comes from his own issues of being a monster himself. Being unnecessarily cruel to people who are different is his way of making himself feel better.

Also, he basically makes himself hate everybody for some reason or another to keep himself from getting hurt. Baaw. :|b
