In the maw of the Earth, the Kaworu who was not Kaworu dreamed of nothing. (But listened in the depths of hibernation. To the sprawling miles. The shift and grind of plates. Of continents. Pulling apart. Pushing together. The onset of cold. With the smoke and ash that they had brought. The eventual roar of slowly freezing oceans. The water, gradually, so cold, almost nothing could survive. Almost nothing slept above him. Shifted. But, sometimes, there was movement. Small and unthinking. In the most lifeless of places, something--)

Did. (And it had once been a slow thought. One that did not find home in the weight of darkness. In a city without noise and without warmth. No cry of sea birds. In a post that had been rank with loneliness. The anxiety instilled by monsters. That did not haunt in physical. That reached in, quiet, and caressed the rise of spines. That muttered on the inside. With small, sharp claws.)

Does. (And it was now familiar thought. In the uneven stillness of the apartment. In the surrounding purr of engines. The distant roll of seas. And the smell of life and shores. Pressing in against the windows. Creeping in. To perhaps soothe more than the fold of his arms do. Than the shift of his weight near him does. The slide of bare feet over sheets. His body so much more tangible than his own. Than the brush of his fingers over invisible fractures does. Than the language he speaks, loving, to the islands emotions that shift and collide inside of him. That keep him pressing close. That keep him pulling back. That keep Kaworu drawn, inexplicably.

Always.)
