this is going to be massive oh god let's break this up. RIVER IN HARRY POTTER WORLD:
Year: 4th House: Ravenclaw; she was offered any by the Hat, and chose Ravenclaw on her own. Blood: Pureblood; her parents are from two different upper class pureblood families, one English and one Chinese, so she was very well off. Wand: Currently, Cedar wood, dragon heartstring core, 10 inches and supple. However, she's been through at least three other wands in her life; as a child, she was gifted with Hazel wood. During her time with the Death Eaters and in the Department of Mysteries, she was forced to try different wands to test her potential, and also because Hazel was no good for her in her new emotionally unstable state. She only remembers using a Silver Lime and a Walnut wand. Pet: N/A. Sometimes she can be found with other people's pets, though. Favourite Class: With the right teacher, DaDA. Otherwise, she likes everything. Activities: None. She could do anything, but no one can get her to consistently commit to any of them. She'll show up at things for no reason sometimes, though. History:oh boy.
At the age of 9, River was an exceptionally gifted girl; she showed promise in every area of magic, but most unusually, wordless and even wandless magic, and also Legilimency. In a Death Eater attack, she demonstrated an array of these skills, and one of them took particular interest in her, so she was kidnapped and used as an experiment, mostly relating to Legilimency and the mind, and the effects of various things on a person's magical ability. This continued for two years, during which areas of her mind were whittled away - particularly her amygdala, in line with canon - and in the end, her talents increased exponentially, but at the cost of her physical and mental health.
She was discovered at the age of 11 and taken away from the Death Eater, but from there, the Ministry of Magic realised that she was A) really, really dangerous; an unstable Legilimens, and a witch with absolutely no emotional control, and B) she knew way too many secrets, both of the Death Eaters and of the inner workings of the Ministry; she'd dragged secrets from the minds of every Death Eater she was ever exposed to, some of which worked secretly in the Ministry. So, instead of sending her back home, they put her away in the Department of Mysteries, where they continued to research and test her. She spent more years locked up in the Ministry. They pretended that she was in intensive care, and allowed her to write letters home to her family just so nobody got suspicious.
Her older brother Simon Tam did get suspicious, because River was writing her letters in code, and he decoded them. He found out where she was and decided to rescue her, which he managed to pull off one day when she was due to be transported to a Ministry in a different country. Not knowing what else to do, he took her to Hogwarts and begged for Dumbledore (or whoever the Headmaster may be in whatever AU haha) to keep her safe, and keep both the Ministry and the Death Eaters away from her - because for whatever reason, River still seems to be convinced (or, more accurately, extremely paranoid) that both are still pursuing her.
And so Hogwarts gains an emotionally unstable, crazy little uncontrolled Legilimens.
